A pro-pickleball instructor is coming to Ponoka and putting on an instructional clinic for the Ponoka Pickleball Club on Aug. 8.

“We are fortunate to have Steve Deakin come to Ponoka and help our club,” said Ponoka Pickleball Club member Gail Schur, adding pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in North America.

Instructor Steve Deakin is a professional pickleball player who competes at the professional level as well as offering clinics and boot camps around the U.S. and Canada.

An 11-time Canadian National Champion, he started playing tennis as a junior. He’s also a former ATP ranked player and a two-time Senior World Team player and captain.

Deakin is the founder of Steve Deakin Pickleball and teaches clinics across Canada.

Weather permitting, the clinic will be held at the Ponoka tennis courts, but will move inside to the Ponoka Arena Complex if needed.

Although the clinic is now full, if you have any other questions about the local club, contact Schur at 403-391-8453.
