Ponoka FC ended the 2013 season as the runner-up in the Championship match of the Battle River Men’s Soccer League on Aug. 25 in Wetaskiwin. Although Ponoka was defeated 1-0 by Wetaskiwin’s Manluk, they improved on last year’s third-place finish. The team was formed in 2012, after two previous seasons playing in a less competitive league within the Central Alberta Soccer Association. The BRMSL includes four teams from Wetaskiwin, as well as Millet, Leduc and Ponoka. Regular season matches take place from May to July, followed by playoffs and the championship game in August.

The Ponoka squad is made up of soccer enthusiasts aged 18-48. In addition, many team members are active participants in the local youth soccer scene. The Ponoka FC roster includes district referees, Ponoka Soccer Association board members, and volunteer coaches at the house league and competitive level.
