Ponoka hosts Team Roping Canada Finals

The Team Roping Canada Finals, with $20,000 in added prize money, was held from Sept. 15 to 17, at the Calnash Ag Event Centre.

Cinching third place in the 2023 Open Canadian Champions were Ponoka’s own Keely Bonnett, partnered with Tate Schmidt hailing from Barrhead, Alta. The pair ran their five steers in 35.42 seconds.

Second place was Kolton Schmidt and Tyrel Flewelling, from Lacombe, with a time of 32.46 and first place went to Dillon and Dawson Graham with a time of 30.11.

First, second and third place took home a Canadian champion buckle, a trophy vest and Alliance Equine Horse boots, respectively.

The Open Canadian Champions with their earnings were:

- first place, Dawson Graham (header) and Dillon Graham (heeler), taking home $4,780.00;

- second place, Kolton Schmidt (header) and Flewelling (heeler), $3,585.00;

- third place, Tate Schmidt (header) and Bonnett (heeler), $2,390.00, and

- fourth place, Kolton Schmidt (header) and Logan Spady, $1,195.00.
