The Ponoka Junior B Stampeders recently played two games in a row over the weekend of Jan. 10 and 11. The first game they played against the Medicine Hat Cubs losing 17-3.

The first period set the pace for the game with the Cubs scoring six goals and the Stampeders with none.

The second period fared better than the first for the Stampeders with them scoring two goals. The first was put in by Kyle Kinley, assisted by Justin Rausch and Kelsey Russell. Ponoka Stampeders’ Steven Schwab whipped in the second goal for the team with help from Shea Johnston and Dylan Buffalo. The Cubs made eight goals in this period.

The third period ended the game with a 17-3 score, with three goals for the Cubs. Matthew Wolfe slammed in the last goal for the Stampeders, assisted by Kyle Kinley and Shea Johnstone.

Ponoka faced off against the Banff Academy Bears the next day on Jan. 11 and made it a fairly close game resulting in a 5-3 win for the Bears.

The first period began positively with only one goal made in the latter part of the period by Stampeder Andrew Walker with help from teammate Rodney Raugust.

The Bears put two in starting off the second period and Ponoka ended the period with another goal. Joseph Potts scored unassisted.

Ponoka fought in the third period and Kyle Kinley put in the puck with help from Dylan Buffalo and Steven Schwab.

The Bears dominated the end of the game with three more goals making it a win for them 5-3.
