Ponoka Junior B Stampeders

The Ponoka Junior B Stampeders recently played three games resulting in three losses. On Jan.16 the team traveled to Airdrie to face off against the Airdrie Thunder. The game ended with a 20-5 win for Airdrie. In the first period the Thunders scored six goals. In the second period of the game the Stampeders were able to get the puck in the net. Airdrie started off the period with four goals and the Stampeders’ Andrew Walker made the first goal for the team assisted by Dean Dion Jr and Kelsey Russell. Travis Kirchner followed with another goal for the team with help from Rodney Raugust.

Airdrie shot in five more goals before the end of the second period. In the third period the Stampeders were able to get their hands on the puck and gave Airdrie a good period. Kyle Kinley started off the third period with a quick goal assisted by Dylan Buffalo. Airdrie whipped in five goals in a row and Ponoka finished it off with two more goals.

Dean Dion Jr scored the second last goal with help from Shea Johnston and Matthew Wolfe. Kyle Kinley put in the last goal of the game assisted by Chad McDougall.

On Jan. 17 the Ponoka Junior B Stampeders hosted a game against the Coaldale Copperheads. It was a close game for the Stampeders but ended with a 4-3 win for the Copperheads.

The Stampeders were strong in the first period of the game shooting in the first two goals. Dylan Buffalo made the first goal with help from Steven Schwab and Chad McDougall. McDougall put in the second goal assisted by Kyle Kinley and Dylan Buffalo.

Coaldale managed to get in one goal before the end of the first period.

In the second period the opposing team picked up in the game with two goals sandwiched around Andrew Walker’s goal that was assisted by Kelsey Russell.

The Copperheads scored the single goal that was made in the third period of the game making for a 4-3 win for their team.

The Ponoka Stampeders were out of luck on Jan. 20 against the Rimbey Rock in Rimbey. The game resulted in a 15-5 win for the Rimbey Rock.

Rimbey set the pace for the game with scoring the first goal in the first 30 seconds. Ponoka Stampeders’ Chad McDougall threw in a goal assisted by Kyle Kinley and Dylan Buffalo. Rimbey answered back with two more goals.

In the second period the Stampeders were more successful scoring every other goal. Travis Kirchnew put the puck in within the first minute and a half. Rimbey Rock scored soon after. Kyle Kinley whipped in another goal for the Stampeders assisted by Dylan Buffalo.

Rimbey scored another goal followed by a goal by Chad McDougall assisted by Dylan Bufalo and Kyle Kinley.

Chad McDougall fired in another goal for the team after a goal from Rimbey and was unassisted.

The third period ended it all for the Stampeders with Rimbey scoring nine goals in a row making for a 15-5 win for the Rimbey Rock.

The next games for the Ponoka Junior B Stampeders will be on Jan 28 at 7:45 p.m. against Stettler Lightning and Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. against the High River Flyers. Both games will be held at the Ponoka arena. Come out and support the local Ponoka team.
