The Ponoka Storm U13 girls soccer team are gold medalists following a weekend tournament in Camrose.
The Storm competed in the Camrose Night Classic Tournament June 4 and 5, playing three games on Saturday, and coming away with three straight wins which put them into the gold medal game that was played on Sunday.
They stuck with their game plan, overcame some injuries and battled through adversity. The Storm came back from one goal down to Stettler early in the gold medal game to score two unanswered goals, leading to a gold medal win.
These girls have had a remarkable season so far with 11 wins, zero losses, one tie and only four goals against with three weeks left in the outdoor season. The squad now sets its sights on finishing the regular season strong, as they prepare for provincial qualifiers later this month.
