On Dec. 17, skaters from Skate Ponoka will take to the ice at the Ponoka Arena Complex and perform some of the routines they’ve been working on.

Starting at 5 p.m, the event will feature 12 to 15 soloist performers with a few younger duet pairs taking to the ice as well.

Skate Ponoka is asking for donations for the Ponoka Food Bank instead of a price for admittance.

“These skaters have been waiting two years to get back on the ice and do what they love to do,” said president of the Skate Ponoka Club Christine Nywening.

Due to building repairs as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, skaters have had very few chances to get back on the ice.

This event also helps skaters prepare for the upcoming Ponoka Skate Carnival on March 12, 2022.

The carnival will have a theme and presentation based around “In the Enchanted Garden.”

In keeping with COVID-19 protocols, all visitors will be expected to wear a mask while inside the arena during the charity skate event.
