Stampeders game gives way to the Flyers

The Ponoka Junior B Stampeders faced off against the High River Flyers starting off the weekend on Dec. 5. The teams battled each other at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex resulting in an intense game of 6-2.

The first period saw three goals. High River set the pace with a goal after the first minute of the game and Ponoka’s Dylan Buffalo soon followed scoring, unassisted, within four minutes of the first period.

A goal from High River ended the period.

There were 10 penalties resulting from the first period with seven of those being from the Stampeders and three from the Flyers.

The Stampeders kicked off strong in the second period with Shea Johnston scoring after five minutes with an assist by Andrew Walker. The flyers answered with another goal near the end of the second period making it 3-2 going into the third period.

There were eight penalties wrapping up the second period with six of those belonging to the Stampeders and two for the High River Flyers.

The Flyers took over the game in the third period leading the scoring in the first seven minutes and scoring two more before the end of the game.

A slew of penalties came from the end of the game adding up to 21 with 12 of those coming from the Stampeders.

In the first period the Flyers had 19 shots on goal and the Stampeders had six. The second period saw the Stampeders make nine shots on net and the Flyers 20. In the third period the Flyers made 16 shots on net and the Stampeders had 10 for a total of 25 for the whole game. The Flyers made a total of 55 shots on net during the game.

The High River Flyers had 2 for 10 for power plays and the Stampeders had 0 for 1.

The next game for the Ponoka Junior B Stampeders will be today, Dec. 10 at 7:45 p.m. and they will face off against the Red Deer Vipers. The game will take place at the Ponoka Recreation Complex, the arena, and all proceeds from the door and 50/50 tickets will be donated to Santa’s Anonymous and the Ponoka Food Bank.
