The Ponoka midget B Stampeders team played host to the Innisfail Flyers on Jan. 22 at the Ponoka Culture and Recreation Complex.

Led by Austin Jacobson, who had four goals and one assist, the Stamps went on to win 11-1.

Ponoka got contributions from William Klassen, who chipped in with two goals, Jordan Moorcroft, who had a goal and three assists, and Kole Abt, who had a goal and two assists.

Taylor Schnell got the nod in net and was perfect until Innisfail was awarded a penalty shot with two minutes left in regulation.

James Smith took the penalty shot for Innisfail, snapping one past Schnell and breaking up the goose egg.

Brian Korchinski, a first-year coach with Ponoka, was happy with the way the team played.

“We played well today. Our goalie was good and the guys stayed disciplined.”

The win vaults the Stampeders into a tie atop the standing with Bashaw — both teams have 17 points through 12 games.
