After many practices and games the U14 Warriors volleyball team claimed bronze in provincials.
On April 25 and 26 the team went to Calgary to participate in the provincials. The team played a series of games, only losing one. The girls played their first game at 9 a.m. against N49 Rush and won.
They headed on to their second game against the Wolves’ red and took another win. The Ponoka U14 Warriors played their last game of the day against the Queen’s Ultimate and came out victorious.
The team kept up the wins on Sunday, dominating their first game against the Pilots. The next game was close with the Warriors starting off on a good foot winning the first and second set 25-8. The third set the team lost and had one more game to determine if they would get third or fourth place in the tournament.
In the final game the girls lost the first set, won the second and came out with a close win 17-15 taking home the bronze.
“It was a really close game, a little scary for our team,” said Warrior Sarah Barrett. “But it was awesome and exciting. We had a lot of fun.”
The girls each received a gold medal at provincials.
Warrior Karlee Sieweke was pleased with the team and believes that they worked hard and played well during provincials.
“We were kind of the underdog going into it,” said Sieweke. “No one expected us to do this well, so that was pretty exciting. We all contributed and everyone has improved so much.”
The team worked hard all through the season and Barrett says that the time spent together playing has bonded the girls on and off the court.
“Some of us hung out together before this,” she said. “But now we all get together.”
Provincials marked the end of the volleyball season for the U14 Warriors and the team is already anticipating another great year ahead.
