Update to Ponoka’s Special Olympic athletes’ trip to Medicine Hat

900 athletes, including those from Ponoka and Lacombe, took part in the Alberta Special Olympics

The weekend of July 7 to 9 brought approximately 900 athletes and 275 coaches representing 60 communities from Alberta and North West Territories and 800 volunteers participated in the 2017 Special Olympic Sumer Games in Medicine Hat.

The Lacombe and District Special Olympic’s team and fans survived the heat wave and returned home with many special memories. Athletes worked very hard to earn many personal best and win a few medals.

5 Pin Bowling Team

• 5 Pin Bowling Singles event – Colin Strugnell – gold , Vickie Day – gold , Cobie Matheson – silver , Jeannette Lawton – silver

• 5 Pin Bowling Team event - The team placed 5th in this event however Ashley Lamey saved her personal best for this event.

• Coaches – Lynne Kilpatrick, Joanne Snelgrove

Swim Team

• Skylar Krossa – 2 personal best in 5 events with a Bronze, Justin Hoffman- 2 personal bests in 5 events with a gold. Angie Ahlquist – 2 personal bests in 6 events with a bronze, Jason Pugh- 1 personal best in 4 events with a bronze and Warren Campbell 4 personal bests in 5 events.
