Gina Flewelling traveled to the National High School Rodeo Finals in Farmington, New Mexico from July 20 to 26 to compete in breakaway and goat tying. “It was a lot of fun to go to the biggest rodeo in the world with 1,500 competitors,” said Flewelling.

Moore wins home tournament

Ponoka golfer Ryan Moore shot a triumphant score of 66 with nine birdies to defeat the field of 105 golfers in the McLennan Ross Sun event. The tournament was held at the Ponoka Community Golf Course on July 21 as part of the Sun Junior tour.

Provincial finals wrap up

Ponoka Panthers fastball club, midget C girls, hosted a 10 team provincial championship, which took place on July 18 to 20. After a total of 24 games, Sedgewick Snipers came out victorious in the gold medal game versus the Calgary Southfour Thunder.

Cassie Penner from the Ponoka Panthers makes a catch during the Midget ‘C’ Girls fast pitch finals in Ponoka on July 18. The Panthers went 2-2 in the tournament and did not advance to the finals. The Sedgewick Snipers defeated the Calgary Southfour Thunder 12-3 in the finals and in the bronze medal game the Provost Shooters defeated the Calgary West Valley Whiplash 7-4.
