The Ponoka Community Gold course has been kept busy with tournaments. The following is a summary of the results of recent competitions.

For 18 year-old Janelle Parent of Ponoka entering university this fall and playing hockey for the Charlottetown P.E.I. Panthers will certainly be a childhood dream come true and the exciting opportunity of a lifetime.

Dedicated young hockey players are making the transition from learning about the fast paced sport to spending most of their time in a classroom.

As July comes to an end Ponoka cowboys and cowgirls have been very busy on the Professional Rodeo of Canada stops. The following is a list of results for some local rodeo athletes and how they have been doing.

Gina Flewelling traveled to the National High School Rodeo Finals in Farmington, New Mexico from July 20 to 26 to compete in breakaway and goat tying. “It was a lot of fun to go to the biggest rodeo in the world with 1,500 competitors,” said Flewelling.

Ponoka golfer Ryan Moore shot a triumphant score of 66 with nine birdies to defeat the field of 105 golfers in the McLennan Ross Sun event. The tournament was held at the Ponoka Community Golf Course on July 21 as part of the Sun Junior tour.

The Ponoka Panthers recently hosted the provincial championships. Above Stephanie Steblyk makes the tag and Dusty Finkbeiner looks on and below Taryn Barrett hits the ball.

Ponoka Panthers fastball club, midget C girls, hosted a 10 team provincial championship, which took place on July 18 to 20. After a total of 24 games, Sedgewick Snipers came out victorious in the gold medal game versus the Calgary Southfour Thunder.

The Sedgewick Snipers defeated the Calgary Southfour Thunder 12-3 in the finals and in the bronze medal game the Provost Shooters defeated the Calgary West Valley Whiplash 7-4.
