Several Ponoka cowboys competed this year in the Ponoka Stampede, a real treat for the spectators.

A full grandstand was on hand at the Ponoka Stampede Canada Day to watch the best rodeo cowboys in the world compete for championships in the Showdown.

Morgan Boyce, 17, and Shelby Cire, 15, are members of the Central Alberta Youth Dart League and members of Team Alberta who recently got the chance to travel to Saint Hyacinthe, Que. for the Youth National Championships.

The Ponoka Stampede isn’t the only time to come out and watch cowboys and cowgirls make these physically and mentally challenging events look easy.

The 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Inline Hockey World Championships are taking place in Ingolstadt, Germany from June 6 to 14 and Red Deer’s Adam Ross, 22, grandson of Ponoka’s Sylvia and Bryan Corkery, is competing for the second year in a row.
