VIDEO: Car crash, shooting near Leland Hotel, Ponoka

UPDATE 2:

On Sept. 21, at 2:51 a.m., Ponoka RCMP received reports of a shooting near the Leland Hotel in Ponoka.

A victim with what appeared to be multiple gun shot wounds was identified and taken to hospital by STARS in stable condition. There was a collision with minor injuries reported near the hotel during this incident.

RCMP have deployed additional resources including the Central Alberta General Investigative Section to Ponoka and surrounding area to investigate this incident.

Although early in the investigation, RCMP believe that this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing risk to the community.

UPDATE 1:

The damaged vehicle is now being towed from the scene and has what appears to be multiple bullet holes. Clean up of the scene appears to be nearing completion.

ORIGINAL STORY:

As of 8:55 a.m. Sept. 21, there is an active crime scene on Chipman Avenue, and the area is cordoned off with police tape, from about Vantage Physiotherapy Clinic to the lights on 50 St.

Sgt. Erin St-Cyr with the Ponoka RCMP confirmed police are currently securing the scene while the Forensic Identification Section processes evidence.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m., said St-Cyr.

A heavily damaged vehicle is sitting in front of the Leland Hotel and other debris can be seen on the street. The area behind the Leland Hotel and the alleyway that gives access to Chipman Ave. are also cordoned off.

There is no immediate danger to the public at this time.
