There’s no excuse to be home on family day Feb. 15 in the town of Ponoka with two fun-filled events ready for families to enjoy.

The awards and accolades continue for Gord Bamford as his current CD Honkytonks and Heartaches was recently named Album of the Decade by Canadian Country Music News. Larry Delaney, Country Music News publisher and editor, said from the 120 albums he had to choose from, Honkytonks and Heartaches was “an easy pick.

“(Ponoka’s) a really good town,” country artist Jaydee Bixby told the Ponoka News. “You really feel a part of something when you’re there and I can’t wait to perform for them.”

The Gord Bamford and Friends of 4-H Rural Roots Run Deep fundraising project will provide an opportunity for 28,000 4-H members from clubs in every Canadian province to sell Bamford’s brand new CD “Day Job” that will be released to retail markets on April 6.

Students and parents are in for a treat Jan. 15 when a Canadian a capella group, HOJA, performs at Ponoka Elementary School to help fundraise for the school council.

A 22-year-old singer equipped with a powerful voice will perform her original song at the Red Deer Olympic torch relay celebration Jan. 15.

A positive message was delivered from a six-member family band Nov. 22 at the Country Christmas Opry.

Country singer Brett Kissel and local talent Donna Gartner rocked this year’s November Fest.
