The death was ruled a homicide by the Medical Examiner’s Officer and Applegarth was taken into custody and charged with second degree murder.

Cpl. Laurel Scott from RCMP media relations confirmed that Applegarth was out on bail from the first murder charge when he was arrested in Ponoka for the death of Firingstoney.

Jamison Samuel Louis, 34, was killed in Wetaskiwin on Jan. 3, 2020. An investigation conducted by the Major Crimes Unit then led to first degree murder charges against Applegarth.
