Farm Credit Canada (FCC) is seeking nominations for the 2009 Rosemary Davis Award, which honours Canadian women for their leadership and commitment to agriculture. Last spring, Marie Logan, a farmer, 4-H and community leader from Lomond, Alberta, was one of five Canadian women who received the award.

The 4-H Provincial Equine Advisory Committee (PEAC) is set to distribute its four-DVD horsemanship video set to all Alberta 4-H equine leaders.

On Wednesday, Oct. 29, ballots will be mailed to 4793 grain producers in central, west-central, and south-western Alberta. The choice made by these growers will determine their representative on the board of directors of the Canadian Wheat Board and quite possibly even the future existence of the CWB itself.

(Agri-News) Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) elections are currently underway to choose directors in five of the CWB’s 10 electoral districts.

On Nov. 14 the Ponoka Agricultural Society’s second annual Harvest Hoedown will be taking place at the Kinsmen Centre.

Those who have given their time to support the Ponoka Agricultural Society were honoured for their work on Oct. 21. The Ag Society hosted a volunteer appreciation dinner at the Ponoka Kinsmen Community Centre to show gratitude to the many volunteers who contributed to the success of the Ag Society.

The generous support of time, food, funding and equipment from Farm Credit Canada’s employees, provincial and local food banks, community partners, residents and agriculture producers made Alberta’s first Drive Away Hunger tour a major success.

More than 30 additional staff from Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development (ARD) and 30 part-time staff from Livestock Identification Services (LIS) are now available to assist producers in age verifying their 2008 calf crop.

A large crowd gathered at a local field on Oct. 4 to celebrate the harvest, socialize and support a good cause. The Canadian Foodgrains Ponoka Growing Project brought businesses, churches, individuals, farmers, truck drivers and many others together to witness the harvest of the 170 acres of wheat.

The land is almost bare as farmers are taking advantage of the beautiful weather and harvesting the crops off of their fields.
