St.A’s graduates will be forever young

The graduating class of St. Augustine’s will be a family affair as the students celebrate their commencement activities. “Our school is like another home. Everyone is just so connected and all the kids are all friends,” said graduating student Katie Cire. “It’s coming so fast. It’s overwhelming and surreal.”

Staffing changes at local elementary schools

There will be some staffing changes at Ponoka Elementary School for the 2008 and 2009 school year. Lois Spate and Dania Hill have been appointed as the new assistant principals of PES.

Fundraising auction for Ponoka Christian School

ERAINA HOOYER/Ponoka News Ponoka Christian School held their Annual Fundraising Auction at the Ponoka Culture and Recreation Complex on May 3 to help raise money for the school. Items for the auction were donated by members and businesses of the community and the good turnout and giving hearts resulted in the auction raising approximately $65,000 to help with the needs of the school. Writing workshop coming to Ponoka

Budding authors and those with a passion for writing will have an opportunity to gain more insight and knowledge into the writing world through two workshops hosted by the Ponoka Jubilee Library on May 20.

This year’s Craig Lafond Scholarship winner is Dylan Majerech. Dylan played on the Atom “C” team this past season, and based on the nomination received from Dylan’s coaches, the Black Elk Selection group picked him as this year’s winner. Dylan will receive one week’s free admission into the Black Elk Hockey Camp in Ponoka this summer. He was presented with the award at the Minor Hockey AGM April 14 by Marion Raugust and Rod Lafond.

MPB not a threat in County

The Mountain Pine Beetle seems to be sweeping its way through some parts of Alberta. The pine beetle has not been a threat to Ponoka yet and although Ponoka County is not anticipating a problem, they are aware that damage could happen.

St.A’s students learning to become environmentally friendly

The importance of being eco-friendly has been a ‘hot topic’ for a long time. Over the last 30 years or more people have been asking, ‘how does this affect the environment,’ or ‘what impact will this have on our atmosphere?’ This is because everything we do either helps our environment, or makes us demolish it.
