Ponoka News being read online

Dear Editor; I just wanted to drop a line to let you know I tell all my co-workers (and anyone else who will listen) to check your newspaper out online thanks to the hilarious and well written police blotter. It is the best item I read in a week.

Outcry against Canada’s top honour

Dear Editor; It’s a national disgrace! Dr. Morgentaler received the ‘Order of Canada’, an award created by government to honor those who have made a difference in Canada – and make a difference he did. According to Stats Can, there are now roughly l00,000 abortions performed annually in Canada. Abortions can at this time be performed at all stages of pregnancy – even partial-birth abortions.

Stampede goer reacts to concert music

Dear Editor; We attended the June 26th concert featuring Shane Yellowbird and George Canyon. These guys are really good singers, but thanks to whoever was in charge of the sound made them sound awful, like loud is better, I don’t think so. Even the metal floor below our feet vibrated up in the stands. Not everyone likes loud.

Local resident reflects on the Ponoka Stampede

Dear Editor; The Stampede is over for another year. The noise and the dust have settled, it’s quiet. I think it was a good year for the rodeo. It sure brings out the people and that’s good. Thank you to those who fed us pancakes, entertained us and give us pleasure, it was a good year.

Concern raised from Cowboy church

Dear Editor; This morning (June 29), I attended my first Cowboy Church at the Ponoka Grandstand, in company with two of my grandsons, who are multilingual and carry a non-English’ name. It was an enjoyable and inspiring event.

Unfriendly atmosphere greets stampede visitor

Dear Editor; I came to Ponoka with three friends to take in the Stampede experience. We wanted to make a day of it so we had tickets to both the afternoon and evening events plus the concert. After the afternoon event it was quite chilly outside so we decided to go to a local restaurant to have a meal and prepare for the evening to come.

Property tax and unfair assessments

Dear Editor; Property Tax=Mill Rate x Assessed value of property. The town council determines mill rate and the property value is assessed by an assessor. Assessed value of a property contains two things: the value of the land and the value of building improvements. You cannot dispute the property tax amount.
Ponoka News goes Dutch

Ponoka News goes Dutch

Dear Editor; Yesterday I received a letter with a picture of Bart van Haaren who has won two times gold with cabinet making at the high school competition. Bart is well known here in our village because he left the Netherlands almost six years ago.

Resident upset about new logo

Dear Editor; I cannot believe the proliferation of the new Ponoka ‘rooster’ logo. The town stated in your paper (Dec. 26, 2007) and I quote, “The new logo will not be replacing any previous logos” unquote.

Theft angers downtown business

Dear Editor; We would like to thank the person, or persons who chose to free our beautiful planted flower basket from its location in front of our downtown store, (Flowers for You). We know that the poor plant was being held against its will and put on public display in an attempt on our part to enhance the appearance of our downtown area.
