Ponoka reacts to assault

Dear Editor; I am shocked at the attitude of the officer who spoke to the paper regarding this crime. Of course, people should lock the doors to their houses but if they forget to lock their back door one night they should not feel like they deserve to be punished by having someone unlawfully enter their house and attack them.

Self appointed birdman of Ponoka upsets resident

Dear Editor; I have a question I would like answered in regards to the fellow who supposedly has such a passion for the birds and the bird refuge near Ponoka. I do understand that the province wide reputation of Ponoka for unusual people residing here may lend itself to part of the answer to my question, however, that cannot, in itself, fully answer my question.

Giving spirit has given enough for charities

I work at a local drive-thru restaurant in town and we are a very busy establishment; every year we host an annual event to raise money for a certain charity, we do this by asking our customers if they would like to make a small donation.

Seniors facing tough rent increases

Dear Editor; Well it had to happen. As with everything rent has to go up. It is hard enough to get by with a seniors income of under $2,300 per month for two people, but that is what is happening in this great town we call Ponoka. While the oil workers receive a healthy wage of over $50 per hour and everyone seems to be wanting more in wages, the seniors who live in Alberta get a raise of about .2 per cent of one per cent per year.

Time to recognize important

Dear Editor; As a nurse of over 30 years, many of my co-workers are members of AUPE, the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees. Through the union, they are currently trying to negotiate contracts on behalf of 27,000 members in two groups called Auxiliary Nursing Care and General Support Services.

Trash, chains, bottles and a dog found in the ditch upsetting for resident

Dear Editor; I live northwest of town near Usona. Because of the distance from towns and large collections of people, sometimes individuals come down my road and hurl their garbage out into the ditch. This doesn’t really bother me since it means I get to dig through it and find neat items like logging chains, deposit bottles and furniture. The cleanup can be a hassle, but, oh well.

Former 4-H member addresses parents role in 4-H

Dear Editor, After reading Sharon Kjenner-Bolton’s letter to the editor and as a past 4-H member I felt compelled to share my thoughts. I was a 4-H member for nine years and believe 4-H is a great experience for any child. 4-H taught me what responsibility and commitment truly mean. I learned that some years after all your hard work and effort you lose money.

Local resident upset over tree removal

Dear Editor; I am writing in regards to the decimation of the trees on our street. Two years ago we purchased a home in what was once a beautiful treed neighbourhood. As of this morning, to my horror 19 trees were sacrificed in the name of what?

4-H sale numbers down concerns writer

Dear Editor; Our family just completed our first year of 4-H with the East Ponoka Beef Club since being involved 20 some years ago. I must say what a great experience, my daughter and nieces had such a good year. Joyce Winter you’re a positive, organized and knowledgeable influence on all the kids and we look forward to working again with you next year.

The farmers’ defence needs to be raised

Dear Editor; This letter is in regards to the “Ones Who Think and/ or Believe the Farmers Are Getting Rich.’
